Handing Over a Product
When handing over your product, try not to do it at your home if you don’t know the person.
- Never arrange the exchange without planning ahead
Avoid last-minute or improvised handovers. Always arrange a meeting in a safe place, preferably a public location such as a café, a public square, or the entrance to an apartment building where other people are around. - Identify the person
Ask for their first and last name and verifiable contact information before meeting. If possible, ask them to provide identification, or at least verify that their phone number is genuine. - Don’t stay isolated
If possible, bring someone with you or let a family member know where and when the exchange will take place. - Keep control of the item
Never leave the item unattended during the meeting. The handover should always be direct and intentional.
Avoid exposing your personal information
When formalizing the exchange, make sure your personal information is not visible to the other person.
Receving a Service
· Screen first, then let them in
Don’t open the door to just anyone. First verify their identity, the reason for their visit and, if possible, their references (e.g. contacts, reviews or mutual acquaintances).
· Don’t stay alone if you can avoid it
If you need to let someone into your home, it is better to have another person there or, at the very least, make sure someone knows about the situation.
· Limit access to your home
Always accompany the person. Never allow them to move around your home unattended.
· Keep valuables and personal information secure
Before they arrive, put documents, money, devices and anything containing sensitive information in a safe place.
· Trust the warning signs, not just their words
If something doesn’t feel right—their behavior, persistence or inconsistencies—end the interaction immediately. It is better to seem rude than to put yourself at risk.
